Caries & Minimal Intervention Study ✓ Peer reviewed

Effect of moisture control on root caries progression adjacent to different restorative materials in an in-vitro biofilm model.

Odontology · Kharbot B, Al-Abdi A, Schwendicke F, Paris S, Askar H · 2026-10-13

Researchers compared how well resin composite and three glass ionomer cements resisted root caries progression when placed under ideal versus inadequate moisture control, using a bacterial biofilm model on extracted teeth. Resin composite showed less mineral loss at the root surface under ideal conditions, but moisture control had minimal impact on caries progression across all materials tested.
