AI-derived panoramic score and its association with major systemic diseases: A retrospective cross-sectional study.

Journal of dentistry · Kahm SH, Ko DY, Choi JS, Lee JH, Cho SH, Lee SY · 2026-10-17

Researchers used artificial intelligence to develop a scoring system from panoramic dental radiographs that quantifies tooth loss and bone loss, then tested whether this score associated with five systemic diseases. The score independently associated with all five conditions studied (diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis, heart disease, and high cholesterol), with meaningful predictive value for three of them.
