INDICATE [INtroducing DIabetes Checks in A denTal sEtting]: estimating prevalence of undiagnosed pre-diabetes/type 2 diabetes in primary dental care.
Researchers tested two diabetes risk-assessment tools combined with point-of-care HbA1c testing in 803 dental patients aged 40+ and found that 10% had pre-diabetes and 3% had undiagnosed type 2 diabetes. Both questionnaires demonstrated good sensitivity but low specificity; however, adding HbA1c testing improved diagnostic accuracy in dental settings.
