An interim analysis of acute treatment adverse events and patient reported quality of life for functional imaging guided salivary gland sparing radiation therapy using diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging.
Researchers used diffusion-weighted MRI to identify high-risk areas within parotid glands and optimised radiation doses to spare these regions in 24 head and neck cancer patients. Interim analysis found a potential dose-response relationship between radiation to the opposite parotid gland and dry mouth severity, though findings did not reach full statistical significance.
