Comparative Evaluation of Two Commercially Available Topical Gels As Adjuncts to Scaling and Root Planing for Gingival Inflammation: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
Researchers compared scaling and root planing alone, combined with either chlorhexidine gel or a chlorhexidine-metronidazole combination gel in 120 patients with gingivitis or early periodontitis. Both gel adjuncts reduced plaque and inflammation better than placebo, with no significant difference between the two gels at 12 weeks.
