Researchers examined how severely malocclused adolescents rated their own need for treatment and assessed relationships between malocclusion severity and self-esteem, aesthetic perceptions, and psychosocial impact. Adolescents and clinicians differed significantly in perceiving treatment need, and specific dental features (overjet and overbite) correlated with psychosocial outcomes, though skeletal factors did not.
