Researchers examined whether body composition measures relate to periodontitis differently in men and women, and whether oxidative stress markers explain these links. In women, lower muscle-to-fat ratios and higher fat or muscle mass were associated with increased periodontitis risk, with serum albumin partly mediating these associations; no significant associations were found in men.
