Intraoral Er:YAG laser-assisted de-epithelialization of autogenous gingival grafts for soft tissue management.

Clinical advances in periodontics · Kawanabe D, Kuraji R, Numabe Y · 2026-08-15

Researchers used an Er:YAG laser to remove the surface layer from palatal tissue grafts before harvest, then applied the grafts to two patients for root coverage and one for ridge augmentation. The technique achieved complete root coverage in both cases and tissue gains in the augmentation case, with microscopic analysis showing epithelial removal while preserving underlying connective tissue.
