Autotaxin/Lysophosphatidic Acid Axis Promotes Periodontitis by Modulating Macrophage Osteoclastogenesis and Inflammation.

Journal of clinical periodontology · Liu E, Ding J, Jiang Y, Zhou Y, Xu L, He Z, Zhou W, Song Z · 2026-08-14

Researchers found that the autotaxin/lysophosphatidic acid pathway is elevated in periodontitis and drives bone loss and inflammation by affecting macrophage-derived osteoclasts. Blocking this pathway in mice reduced inflammation and bone resorption, suggesting ATX inhibition as a potential treatment target.
