Caries research · Ylitervo L, Halt AH, Niemelä M, Pelkonen A, Laitala ML · 2026-08-19

Researchers examined whether adverse childhood experiences—including family dysfunction and physical abuse—were linked to dental health outcomes in 1,690 Finnish adults aged 33–35 years. Family dysfunction was associated with higher cavity levels and smoking, while physical abuse was linked to increased gum bleeding and poor oral hygiene habits.
