Airways & Growth Study ✓ Peer reviewed

Frontal sinus morphology and maturation determination.

European journal of orthodontics · Kök H · 2026-08-06

Researchers compared frontal sinus measurements from skull radiographs with established maturation indicators in 240 young patients (ages 9–19) to evaluate whether sinus size could help assess skeletal development. Frontal sinus measurements showed moderate-to-good performance in identifying growth stage transitions, particularly between pubertal stages, but varied by sex and should only be used alongside existing maturation assessment methods.
