Mucoadhesive patch versus benzocaine gel for reducing injection pain: a split-mouth randomized clinical trial.
A split-mouth trial compared a novel bilayer mucoadhesive benzocaine patch with benzocaine gel for reducing injection pain in 36 patients undergoing bilateral extractions. The patch resulted in significantly lower self-reported pain for both injection sites and lower observer-rated pain at the palate compared to the gel.
