Researchers compared serum levels of chromium, magnesium, and nickel across healthy individuals, those with periodontitis alone, and those with type 2 diabetes combined with periodontitis. Chromium and magnesium levels were reduced in periodontitis and diabetic-periodontal disease groups, with correlations found between these minerals and both periodontal and glycaemic measures.
