Examining the link between tooth loss and multiple health outcomes: a comprehensive synthesis of evidence from meta-analyses.

Frontiers in public health · Song S, Xie W, Huang S, He J, Chen L, Liu F · 2026-08-12

This umbrella review of 27 meta-analyses found that tooth loss is associated with increased risks of cardiovascular disease, cancer, neurodegenerative conditions, metabolic and mental disorders, and respiratory disease, with greater tooth loss showing incremental risk increases for several outcomes. However, the overall evidence quality was predominantly low or very low with substantial heterogeneity.
