Researchers exposed rats' submandibular glands to high-dose gamma radiation and tested whether silver nanoparticles could protect against or repair radiation damage. Preventive silver nanoparticle treatment substantially preserved gland structure and function, while post-irradiation treatment showed minimal benefit.
