Researchers found that three antipsychotics (olanzapine, haloperidol, risperidone) reduce saliva production by directly blocking muscarinic receptors in salivary glands, not through their central nervous system targets, with olanzapine and haloperidol showing the strongest inhibitory effects on calcium signalling needed for saliva secretion.
