Specialty-stratified trends in oral cancer resection in Japan before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic: A National Database analysis (2016-2023) with comparative context from Germany.
Japanese oral cancer resection volume fell 12.8% during the COVID-19 pandemic, driven primarily by oral and maxillofacial surgeons, then recovered fully by 2023. Oral surgeons managed earlier-stage tongue cancers while otolaryngologists performed more extensive procedures, with no evidence of stage migration following the pandemic.
