Salivary Metabolomics: A Pilot Study for Screening Biomarkers in Mild-to-moderate Periodontitis.

Researchers identified three salivary metabolites—O-acetylcarnitine, tyrosine, and histidine—that could distinguish patients with mild-to-moderate periodontitis from healthy individuals using mass spectrometry analysis. These metabolites showed an area under the curve of 0.867 for discriminating between the groups.
